The constant complexity and level of competition in the financial services industry make it difficult to stay on top of trends and ahead of competitors. For credit union veteran Fabiana Burkett, leveraging the power of one professional network is helping her steer through the tide of change.
The tools and resources to thrive
Compliance is so much more than simply following rules—it’s being confident in your operational and business processes. Nowadays, leaders are challenged by the need to handle numerous competing projects with limited time and resources.
“As leaders today, we are under a tremendous amount of pressure to perform, evolve, and adapt in order to keep up with the speed of change,” said Burkett, chief risk officer at Orange County's Credit Union, headquartered in Santa Ana, Calif.
Councils provides the tailored resources I need to meet these demands, but also access to a community of my professional peers. It’s the beauty of our credit union moto at our fingertips. We have an amazing network where we can tap into others’ expertise, to share our own, and to gain perspectives. I feel so fortunate to be a part of that.
An influential figure in the Compliance & Risk Council, Burkett harnesses the resources and collective wisdom of her peers to thrive in her role. Her membership has brought Burkett an array of benefits, such as access to a wealth of resources catered to her role -- from informative white papers to engaging webinars. But nothing is more powerful than the collective knowledge she has gained through the community of like-minded professionals, empowering her to navigate the constant change.
Finding the community she needed
"The Councils networking opportunity – leveraging other credit unions professionals’ knowledge, experiences and strategic best practices around risk and compliance issues – is so helpful,” Burkett said.
“I truly believe that compliance and risk professionals, who are constantly challenged to create and embrace new strategic responsibilities, can greatly benefit from a community like this.”
As chair for the Compliance & Risk Council Membership Committee, her hope is to foster membership growth, retention and involvement. She reflects, “it is a pleasure to serve in this position since I truly believe that compliance and risk professionals, who are constantly challenged to create and embrace new strategic responsibilities, can greatly benefit from a community like this.”
“It’s an opportunity for collaboration with credit union professionals facing similar challenges, bringing fresh perspectives, new insights, and enthusiasm for the industry.”
